There are a lot of hidden files in Windows, as they mostly contain files which are important (few files are totally useless too, I'm gonna write on it too ;) ), so they are kept hidden. You can even hide any file or folder, by Right-clicking on it, then go to its properties and check the box in front of "hidden".

Now, how to show these file.

You can search the file or folder by name and it'll show up even if it's hidden, only if you have done advanced search with the option of "include hideen file" in search.

OR

You may simply go to the folder options, which is availabe in control panel and the Menu Bar of any window.
On Menu Bar, go to Tools|Folder Options a new window will open. Now got to View, and check "show hidden files, folders and drive". Press OK. Now all the hidden files and folders will be visible.
To undo, check "don't show hidden files, folders and drive" and press OK.
